Manchester Boy Drowns in Morses Pond, Wellesley

Police report that a 10-year-old boy from New Hampshire died in Wellesley over the weekend.

 

Just before 6 p.m. on Saturday, crews from Wellesley Police and Fire Departments scoured Morses Pond for a 10-year-old boy who had gone missing. The boy was later found in the water, taken to Newton-Wellesley Hospital, and died at the hospital.

The boy was identified by police as Alexander Glennon of Manchester, NH. He and his family were visiting friends in Wellesley.

Police do not suspect foul play was involved, according to a statement from WPD. The pond was closed to the public on Sunday to investigate the scene. 

After the call came in at about 6 p.m., Officers Poirier and Carrasquillo were the first to the scene to aid in search efforts. Wellesley and Natick Fire Departments, as well as Mass State and Environmental Police were soon on the scene to help.

Before 7:20 p.m., scanner reports indicated that police had located the child, although his status was unclear. He was being described as a "drowning victim," and was being transported to the hospital. Wellesley Fire Fighters Chris Larsen and Scott Smith, members of the department dive team, located Alex 30 feet off of the shore.

According to police, all of the proper protocal was followed by recreation and police search teams.

This was the pond's second open weekend of the season.
