Babson College Names Kerry Healey New President

Former Mass. Lt. Governor elected to the position by Babson's board of trustees last night.

 

Babson College announced last night that former Lt. Governor Kerry Healey is coming on as the president of the university.

“My first move will be to sit down with the faculty and staff and students and alumnae and hear thoroughly what their hopes and dreams are for Babson, for its second century,” she told the Boston Globe.

The college is live-streaming a press conference  at 11 a.m. Monday to make the announcement. The college is also hosting a community welcome event in the Needham/Wellesley room in Olin Hall at 3 p.m.

“I fervently believe that education and entrepreneurship are essential in all spheres of society in order to solve economic and social problems and to create value,” Healey said in a press release.

She added, “I am honored and excited to lead Babson in its work to educate and empower entrepreneurs of all kinds knowing they will change the world for the better. Babson uniquely draws from multiple disciplines and resources to help entrepreneurially-minded individuals and organizations support their ideas and ambitions. I am eager to extend Babson’s reach to create even more opportunities to bring the transformational power of entrepreneurship to the world.”

Healey served as Gov. Mitt Romney's lieutenant governor during his 2003 to 2007 term, and launched a campaign for election to the Governor's seat in 2006, but was defeated by Gov. Deval Patrick.
