Alex Hudepohl in Boston Children's Theatre's PINKALICIOUS THE MUSICAL

Boston Children’s Theatre (BCT) is tickled pink to present the pinktastic production of PINKALICIOUS THE MUSICAL.  The musical features 11-year old Alex Hudepohl of Wellesley as ‘Pea’ and ‘Bee’.  Based on the wildly popular books by Elizabeth Kann and Victoria Kann, PINKALICIOUS THE MUSICAL will be performed January 18 – February 2, 2014 at the Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts.

An experienced dancer, Alex has performed locally in productions of Snow White, Anastasia and The Nutcracker. In sixth grade at Wellesley Middle School, Alex has appeared in her school production of Seussical as well as HONK! at BCT.

In this family-friendly musical, Pinkalicious can’t stop eating pink cupcakes despite warnings from her parents. Her pink indulgence lands her at the doctor’s office with Pinkititis, an affliction that turns her pink from head to toe—a dream come true for this pink-loving enthusiast. But when her hue goes too far, only Pinkalicious can figure out a way to get out of this predicament.  

“It is such a thrill to see children’s faces light up when they hear that one of their favorite book characters is coming to life on stage in this production,” revealed Burgess Clark, BCT Executive Artistic Director.  “The popularity of Pinkalicious is astounding! Boys, girls and their families are all familiar with the characters and the stories and that’s a wonderful thing.  It demonstrates that kids are excited about reading and that excitement translates beautifully into the theater.  I advise everyone to grab a cupcake and enjoy the show!”   

PINKALICIOUS THE MUSICAL is directed by visiting artist Mary Guaraldi, the Producing Artistic Director of Canyon Moon Theatre in Sedona, Arizona.  A native of Chelmsford, MA, and a long-time colleague of Burgess Clark, Guaraldi brings a fresh perspective to production.  “When I direct, I tell a story so that each person in the audience finds an echo of that story inside themselves and they can grow from that,” explained Guaraldi.  “This musical is about being who you are- boy, girl, parent, grandparent, friend- and showing your many facets.  This isn’t a show just for girls, it’s for anyone who has ever had a passion for something and it’s for anyone who wants to have fun!”

With choreography by Nicole Soriano and musical direction by Austin Davy, PINKALICIOUS THE MUSICAL features book and lyrics by Elizabeth Kann and Victoria Kann and music and lyrics by John Gregor. PINKALICIOUS THE MUSICAL will be performed at the Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts, 527 Tremont Street, Boston, MA on Saturdays and Sundays, January 18, 19, 25, 26, and February 1 and 2 at 2 pm.  Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by visiting the BCT website at www.bostonchildrenstheatre.org or calling the BCT Box Office at 617-424-6634, x222.  Grandparents Packages are also available that include 2 tickets to the show, a special souvenir and a photo with the class.  Special morning weekday “Mommy and Me” performances and school matinee performances are also on sale through the BCT Box Office.
