A near capacity crowd turned out to last night’s panel discussion on foreign policy as part of Turn Out The Lights.
Politics, foreign regimes and the state of the media were just a few of the topics discussed by adults last night in the same place where they learned about those topics as teenagers. As part of the Turn Out The Lights commemoration of the closing of the old Wellesley High School building, four accomplished WHS alums served as panelists for a discussion entitled “U.S. Foreign Policy: Making it, Executing It, Analyzing It and Covering It.” Nicholas Burns, Professor of the Practice of Diplomacy and International Politics at the Harvard Kennedy School, Sean Carberry, foreign desk producer for National Public Radio, Jeffrey Fager, chairman of CBS News, and Aneesh Raman, speech writer for President Barak Obama, rounded out the panel, whose …

Squier, WHS class of 1968, will perform as part of the Turn Out The Lights artist showcase.
Tonight, rock musician Billy Squier will perform at his high school alma mater to a sold out crowd. Squier, Wellesley High School class of 1968, signed on as part of the Performing Arts Showcase which is part of the town's "Turn Out the Lights" celebration. Squier began playing piano and guitar at an early age. In an e-mail interview Squier said, "I began taking piano lessons ages 9 through 11. Guitar lessons followed shortly thereafter. Even as a young boy, I always liked music. I knew from the moment I heard John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton (1966) that this is what I would be doing with my life." Soon, Wellesley's 1938 high school building will be part of the town's history and a shiny new structure will take its place. But first, the town will pause to reflect on the history of the old place, along with recalling the learning, growing and achieving that goes on each day. This week marks the start of the "Turn Out the Lights" festivities for saying goodbye. High school students will hear from a long list of alumni at a panel tonight. They will hear about how Wellesley High helped spark and then fuel their passions, and sent them on their ways to a variety of fascinating careers. The Wellesley High School alumni panel discussion will take place Tuesday, Nov. 22.

The Turn Out The Lights Festival will takes place between Nov. 20 and Nov. 26.
To commemorate the closing of the 74-year old Wellesley High School building next year, the town is hosting Turn Out The Lights, a week-long series of consortiums, sports events and music. The series, which kicks off in two weeks, is sponsored by the Wellesley Education Foundation, Wellesley High School’s Parent Teacher Organization, The Fund for Wellesley and Wellesley Parents of Performing Students.
