Massachusetts State Police announced they will set up sobriety checkpoints somewhere in Norfolk County next weekend, from Friday, April 5 into Saturday. April 6. State Police say the purpose for the checkpoints "is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways. It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety."

MassDOT announced today that driving on the Route 128 breakdown lane has been discontinued as a fourth travel lane is open.
State Police are now looking out for drivers who use the breakdown lane on Route 128. In an effort to reduce the Route 128 bottlenecks between Route 24 and Route 9, the Mass Department of Transportation (MassDOT) added a fourth travel lane to I-93/95 along that stretch. With that addition, driving in the breakdown lane is now prohibited between Route 24 and Route 109. Signs along the highways and State Police patrols will inform drivers of the change, according to a MassDOT announcement Wednesday. The breakdown lane is now reserved for emergency vehicles and disabled cars. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Dedham or Framingham Toys 'R Us locations on Saturday.
Folks looking to make a donation to Toys for Tots can help the state troopers fill their cruisers by bringing those toys to one of the Mass. Toys 'R Us locations on Saturday. Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Wellesley residents can head to the Toys 'R Us in Dedham or Framingham--or wherever they happen to be (full list below)--and toss their donations into the back seat--or pick one up to add to the pile. Troopers from all over New England want to help local drivers stay safe and prevent crashes during the holiday season.
The holidays are upon us, and many residents will be traveling this week to see family and friends all across New England. State Police are doing their part to help ensure these visits don't end in tragedy because of impaired or distracted driving. The Massachusetts State Police joined forces with other New England State Police divisions at headquarters in Framingham to explain their C.A.R.E program. Increased patrols this week will be cracking down on impaired/drunk driving, texting while driving and seatbelt law violations, among other things. The two-car accident closed down Woburn highway ramp for about 30 minutes.
A two-car crash at the Routes 95/93 cloverleaf sent a Wellesley man to the hospital Saturday night. According to the Mass State Police, around 10:40 p.m. Saturday, troopers responded to the accident on the ramp from Route 95 North to Route 93 South in Woburn. Woburn Fire and emergency medical services also responded to the scene. The accident shut down the ramp for about a half-hour as public safety officials tended to the drivers, investigated the crash and removed the vehicles. A 31-year-old Wellesley man was transported to Lahey Clinic by Woburn Fire. Police report the man has non-life threatening injuries.
