Having voted on the Town Meeting warrant, Town Meeting dissolves until the fall Special Town Meeting.
Town Meeting is over, at least until the fall Special Town Meeting later this year. On Tuesday night, the members of Wellesley Town Meeting cast their votes on the remaining 11 articles of the Town Meeting Warrant. The warrant was completed on the sixth night of Town Meeting. Articles 1, 9, 16, 21, and 36 through 44 on the warrant did not require action on their motions. See the full results on the Scorecard at the Town Meeting Moderator's page. Night five of Wellesley's annual Town Meeting brings discussion on articles 19 through 27 to a close.
Town Meeting made progress on getting through the Town Meeting Warrant's 45 total articles last night. Article 27, which relates to cluster zoning on two to four parcels was held open after a lengthy discussion which ended with a proposed amendment from Town Meeting Member David Himmelberger. The Zoning Board will take some time to consider it, and return with a decision tonight. There are a total of 45 articles on the warrant. The Community Preservation Act article, number 19, leads Town Meeting tonight, on the way through the remaining warrant articles.
The end of April Vacation means not only are students going back to classes, but Wellesley Town Meeting is returning to finish the warrant. The current tally stands at 19 articles out of the 45 posted on the warrant. After lengthy debate, senior center design funds approved at last night's Town Meeting.
Plans for a community center in Wellesley move one step forward after Town Meeting. A ballot vote taken at last night's Town Meeting approved article 18, which would appropriate over $165,000 for design and construction documents for the proposed Tolles-Parson Senior center. The vote was 78 percent in favor of the appropiation, and came after a full night of discussion. Plans for the center currently place it adjacent to the current site of the American Legion facility and joined by a small bridge and cafe structure. The proposed 15,000 square foot facility would house not only senior center activies, but also Council on Aging offices and staff. Batch of design projects and an upgrade to the school phone systems approved at Wellesley Town Meeting.
There are some upgrades coming to the town of Wellesley, or designs for some, within the next year. Article 17 came up during the third night of Town Meeting, which continued discussion of the Town Meeting Warrant. This article was put forward by the School Committee and Board of Selectmen, and both of the motions under it were passed by majority vote. The two motions under Article 17 were: 1) to appropriate $811,200 in design funds for a series of repair and upgrade projects around town, and 2) to upgrade the school telephone systems for the Middle School and below with $411,000. The third night of Town Meeting continues the discussion of the Town Meeting Warrant. The first and second nights of Town Meeting completed discussion of the first 14 warrant articles. At the beginning of last night's session, there were 21 articles remaining. Discussion of article 18, which will appropriate some money for the Tolles-Parson Senior Center, will continue tonight. Using money from free cash, the town balanced the fiscal 2013 budget, which was passed at Town Meeting last night.
Article 8 of Wellesley Town Meeting began last night’s session of Town Meeting, opening with discussion on the town-wide fiscal 14 budget. Officials have balanced the budget, using some money from the free cash supply to do so. All told, the fiscal 2013 budget totals to about $136 million, which is an increase of about $4.5 million from last year’s budget packet. The budget ultimately passed, despite a handful of no votes. The Board used about $2.8 million from free cash to balance the budget. As Precinct C Town Meeting Member Roy Switzler noted, the town has used free cash to balance the budget for three of the last four years. Last night was the second night of Wellesley Town Meeting, and Town Meeting Members and officials discussed another group of warrant articles from the annual warrant. Town Meeting Moderator Margaret Ann Metzger also reported on Monday that several of the articles required no motions: Articles 1, 9, 16, 21, and 36 through 44. Town Meeting continues Monday night, April 8 at the Wellesley High School auditorium, at 7:30 p.m. If Town Meeting does not complete the warrant on Tuesday, there will be a week off for school vacation, and it will continue April 22.

Town Meeting opened last night, and elected officials and Town Meeting members began discussion of the Town Meeting Warrant. Of the 45 articles posted on the warrant, the meeting addressed the first seven articles posted. Town Meeting Moderator Margaret Ann Metzger also reported that several of the articles required no motions: Articles 1, 9, 16, 21, and 36 through 44. Great design work by WCC and can be accomplished and leased out at a fraction of the cost.
