Conn. Lottery Filming Commercial in Wellesley Square

There's not much parking in the area due to a film crew in front of The Gap on Central Street.

If you notice some commotion and limited parking downtown today, it's because of a film crew on Central Street. The Connecticut Lottery is in the process of filming a commercial in Wellesley Square today. Production crew tents are set up along Central and Cross streets.

'Mom's Day Out' Set for Thursday

Over 30 shops are lined up for the event.

The annual downtown shopping event geared toward moms is around the corner. "Mom's Day Out" is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 20 and involves over 30 sponsoring local shops. The town's website has a full list of vendors are deals available for the one-day event. The event is sponsored by Wellesley Square Merchants, and parking is free in the area between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

1. Former First Lady Laura Bush will be in Wellesley today, according to multiple media outlets. 2. She will not be at a public event, however. Bush will be speaking at a private home speaking at a reception honoring author Edith Wharton. 3. If you have any photos from the crowded July Jubilation festival, please upload them to Wellesley Patch. 4. The Natural Resources Commission will meet tonight at 7:30. July Jubilation Set for Today

The annual mid-summer shopping event features deals downtown.

The weather has cooled just in time for Wellesley’s major downtown shopping event of the summer. July Jubilation will take place today in the downtown shopping area. The event begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. There will be music, face painting and free ice cream bars. If it rains, the event will be moved to next Saturday. Upper Crust Pizzeria Woes Deepen [POLL]

Upper Crust executives and founder are engaged in a bitter dispute.

Upper Crust’s woes have reached new heights with court filings showing its co-owners claim each other has used company money for personal gain, according to Boston.com. The details on the split are revealed in legal documents filed by co-owners Joshua Huggard and Brendan Higgins as well as co-founder Jordan Tobins, according to Boston.com The company is already under federal investigation for labor violations.   Upper Crust has one location in Wellesley as well as Waltham, Beacon Hill, Brookline, Lexington, South End, Watertown and West Roxbury, according to its website.  As a result of the dispute, Tobins has been placed on administrative leave, according to Boston.com and claimed the co-owners have illegally taken control of the firm. …

Faber’s Rug Co. Expands on Central Street

The rug company announced its new front door yesterday.

Customers can now walk into Faber’s Rug Co. from the street. The company expanded to 19 Central St., the space where Thunder Sports used to be. Thunder closed in December. "We always wanted a proper front door right on the street," said owner Tom Faber in a e-mailed statement. "The expanded space gives us the opportunity to display carpets so they are easily viewed by our customers." The shop has been in Wellesley for 58 years.

What Happened Here?

Awning Missing in Wellesley Square

What Happened Here returns with some odd rubble and a missing awning on Central Street.

The awning that used to cover the entrances to the row of shops, which includes Wellesley Toy Shop, O’Neil Jewelers and Lacrosse Unlimited has disappeared. Yesterday at around 6:45 p.m., there was some rubble on the sidewalk in front of Lacrosse Unlimited on Central Street as well. Simple remodeling or something else? Marathon Runners and Spectators Brave Stifling Heat [PHOTOS]

Temperatures climbed into the 90s yesterday during one of the hottest marathons ever.

Spectators handed out cups of ice and bottles of water to any runner with an outstretched hand yesterday as they made their way toward the halfway point of the Boston Marathon. Temperatures reached into the 90s by mid afternoon, and the runners weren’t the only people looking for shade.
