How Do You Use the Wellesley Free Library?

The Wellesley library, as it prepares for the coming year, turns to its patrons for some feedback through the Town website.

When you go to the Library, how do you use it? How do you think it could be improved? The Town wants to know. A recent post on the Wellesley Town website introduces the Patron Survey, where patrons of the Wellesley Free Library can provide feedback on how they use the library. Feedback from this survey will go into the library's 2013 Strategic plan, according to the Town Website, which they expect to post on the website in June.  From the post:  The survey should take no more than 20 minutes to complete. All responses will be thoughtfully considered and will factor into our Strategic Plan. Your input will impact the future of the Wellesley Free Library. Please help us by encouraging your neighbors to fill out this survey. Thank you for …

5 Things You Need to Know Today: May 8

Tomorrow, there will be a new superintendent of school in place in Wellesley.

Each morning, Wellesley Patch presents “5 Things You Need to Know,” a collection of announcements, events, reminders and odd little ditties to help you organize your day. 1. The School Committee will vote on a new superintendent tonight, but the Board of Selectmen will also meet at 7 in the Great Hall at Town Hall. 2. The board will once more address the St. James the Great property situation, this time with specific focus on how the potential transaction will affect the senior center project, which was tabled two years ago. 3. The front steps to Wellesley's main library branch have been blocked off for some time now. Does anyone know when the tape and cones will be removed? 4. Mom's Moment

Wellesley’s Library System Goes Digital

Kindles and e-books are now available through Wellesley’s library system.

"When you need a book, look no further than your Kindle or your Nook." That could be a new motto for Wellesley's Public Library, which of course is in existence to serve our town's reading and information needs. Wellesley's library already offers a wealth of services which are utilized by thousands of patrons and their families. Now, the library adds e-book downloads for Kindles to its most recent offerings. It's all thanks to an agreement announced just last week by Amazon.com, enabling libraries like Wellesley's to offer downloadable e-books through its "Overdrive" software offered, which is accessed on the library's website, as well as  through the Minuteman Library network.  The process is a simple one: Navigate to the website library…

Boston and New York: Photographed from Above and Beyond

The work of photographer Nathan Schneider is now on display at the library.

The work of Nathan Schneider, a life-long painter and photographer, is currently displayed at the Wellesley Library’s main branch. The exhibit, a collection of photographs which depict photographs taken in Boston and via train near New York City, will hang through the end of the month. “My approach to photography emphasizes the formal elements of composition with a strong appreciation of color offered by the capabilities of digital photography,” Schneider said in a statement about the exhibit. “My interest in cityscapes, is due to a fascination with the man-made environment, on the scale made possible by modern engineering and with the abstract quality that juxtaposed buildings and expansive cityscapes can acquire.  I also have an interest…
