Wellesley-Needham Rivalry up for Best in Nation

A quick look at Needham High School sports action over the past week.

USA Today's High School Sports site is looking for the Best High School Rivalry in the Commonwealth, and Voting ends on Dec. 3. After that, the contest searches for the best rivalries in four regions across the nation, with voting until Dec. 13.  The contest winners, who will be named after National voting closes on Dec. 19, could score $10,000 split between the rival schools. The USA Today team will show up to cover, live, the 2013 game as well. So, Is Needham-Wellesley the Best Rivalry in Mass? 125th Annual Needham-Wellesley Thanksgiving Football Game Recap: The Rivalry Continues

Crowd of 5,000 attends Needham's victory at home.

With a scoreless last quarter, and a final score of 39 to 21, Needham claimed the 125th annual thanksgiving football game.  Going into the game, Wellesley had the edge, with a 59-57-9 all-time record, Needham has two years straight going into this game--according to USA Today High School Sports. Football starts tonight.

1. The Wellesley Raiders will take on the Framingham Flyers in the first football game of the season tonight in Wellesley. The game begins at 7 p.m. (Look for photos from the game here on Wellesley Patch). 2. The turnout for yesterday's primary election was low, but those who did turn out to vote elected Rep. Alice Peisch into a sixth term. 4. Mom's Day Out is Sept. 20. 5. Have a great weekend!
