Town Clerk Encourages Residents to Register to Vote

The primary election is Sept. 6 and the general election is Nov. 6.

The town of Wellesley is urging residents who have not registered to vote for the upcoming elections to do so now. According to Town Clerk Kathy Nagle: The last day to register to vote for the Sept. 6 primary election is Aug. 17. The last day to register to vote for the Nov. 6 presidential election is Oct. 17. Residents can register at Town Hall between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Teens who will be 18 on or before election day are advised to register by the deadlines to insure that they will be ready to cast their first ballot. Mail in registrations are available at www.canivote.org. ‘Lucy’ Is Wellesley’s Top Dog Name for Third Straight Year

Molly and Teddy finished second and third, respectively.

Most Wellesley dog lovers chose to name their beloved pet “Lucy,” according to dog license renewal forms. The Swellesley Report May 2 reported that 32 families in Wellesley have named their dog Lucy. Also in Wellesley there are 31 dogs named Molly, 30 named Teddy and 29 named Bailey, according to the post. The Swellesley Report said Wellesley has 2,770 registered dogs.

Sample Town Election Ballots Available Online

The ballots have been made available through the town clerk’s office.

The town clerk’s office has put sample ballots online in advance of the March 13 town election. The ballots are broken up by precinct. For the first time, there are eight precincts in Wellesley. The differences on each ballot have only to do with Town Meeting member voting. The Board of Selectmen will be a contested race. Incumbent Terri Tsagaris, longtime Town Meeting Member Royall Switzler and Planning Board Chair Don McCauley are vying for two seats. Selectman Owen Dugan is not running for re-election. The School Committee race is also contested. Incumbent K.C. Kato, Jennifer Looper and Tere Ramos are vying for two positions. The office released information about the new polling places as well. Town Clerk's Office Open Until 8 Last Night for Voter Registration

Yesterday was the last day to register for this year’s state primary election.

The town clerk's office at extended its hours to accommodate citizens who have yet to register to vote in Wellesley last night, according to Town Clerk Kathy Nagle. The state’s primary election is March 6, also known as “Super Tuesday.” The is March 13.

5 Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 30

Happy 2012, Wellesley.

Town Hall will close at noon today. It will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012. The main library and branches will be open today, and will close at 1 p.m. tomorrow. The library will stay closed until Tuesday as well. Because New Year’s Day falls on a Sunday, the holiday will be nationally recognized Monday, Jan. 2, 2012. We hope you’ve enjoyed Wellesley Patch’s year-end series. On Wednesday, we ran the “10 biggest crime stories” article and yesterday, we ran the “10 best photos” story. Earlier this week, the National Weather Service predicted snow today, though that forecast has changed to rain.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory last night, which remained until 3 a.m. Though NWS says today will be breezy, with a high temperature of 45 degrees. Need a New Year’s resolution? Blog on Wellesley Patch! There will be no municipal meetings this week. Though, the “Superintendent Search Committee” will meet at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at Town Hall.

Town to Recommend Date for Special Town Meeting Tonight

The Board of Selectmen will meet to discuss Special Town Meeting at a meeting tonight.

The Board of Selectmen will meet tonight to discuss next year’s budget and they will likely establish a date for this year’s Special Town Meeting. Executive Director of General Government Hans Larsen and town Finance Director Sheryl Strother will make a presentation on their recommendations to the board regarding the town budget for fiscal year 2013, according to Chris Ketchen, deputy director of general government. Based on information from prior meetings, it is possible the presentation will include a Proposition 2 ½ override which, if passed at next year's Town Meeting, will allow for taxes to be raised beyond the 2.5 percent annual limit for fiscal year 2013.
