Massachusetts State Police announced they will set up sobriety checkpoints somewhere in Norfolk County next weekend, from Friday, April 5 into Saturday. April 6. State Police say the purpose for the checkpoints "is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways. It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety."

State police will set up a routine sobriety checkpoint for drivers in Norfolk County this weekend.
If you spot a state trooper camped out by the side of the road somewhere in Norfolk County this weekend, he or she may be doing more than just watching for speedsters. Colonel Timothy P. Alben, superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, announced in a July 30 press release that a sobriety checkpoint will be established on an undisclosed public way in Norfolk County from Friday, Aug. 3 into Saturday, Aug. 4. Alben said the purpose of the checkpoint is to further educate motorists and strengthen public awareness to the need of both detecting drivers who are operating under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and taking them off the road. State Police Superintendent Col. Marian McGovern announced today that a sobriety checkpoint will be established on an undisclosed public way in Norfolk County from Friday to Saturday. The checkpoints, which are funded by a state grant, are routine operations performed by the state police. The Wellesley Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police set up a sobriety checkpoint on Route 9 this weekend.
Wellesley Police, in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police, conducted a field sobriety checkpoint this past weekend on Route 9; the fourth Wellesley-based checkpoint in recent years. Of the 903 cars that drove through either side of Route 9 at St. James The Great Church between 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 and 2 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, police arrested 13 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to Lt. Marie Cleary of the Wellesley Police Department.
