Governor Convenes Meeting to Advance Community College Agenda

Wellesley's Mass Bay was among the community colleges represented at today's meeting.

  This is an edited version of a press release from the governor's office. Gov. Deval Patrick today hosted the first meeting of the Commonwealth’s community college board chairs to discuss implementation of his community college plan. The 15 newly-appointed chairs will partner with the administration to create a more integrated, effective community college system responsive to both local and statewide employer needs that gives community colleges additional capacity to expand student access to high-quality, relevant educational and training programs.   The governor’s community college plan, supported by the legislature and included in the FY13 budget, calls for the governor to appoint the chair of the board of trustees at each community …

Mass Bay Lights Campus with LED Technology

Columnist Deb Robi writes about how one of the local school is choosing an environmentally friendly way to light its campus.

I'm not one of those folks hoarding incandescent light bulbs, but I do know people who are trying to save them. Maybe they don't like change! Countries all over the world, including the U.S. are in the process of eliminating production of the traditional bulbs by 2014.  We are all moving toward LED light technology. The European Union has been a few years ahead and traditional light bulbs are now banned in many European countries. Maybe you are preparing your Wellesley home for the changeover and you want to get the mercury out of the light bulbs in your house now, rather than waiting for the legislation to take effect.
