Think your artwork is good enough to hang in the U.S. Capitol? Congressman Joe Kennedy III, who represents Wellesley in the Mass. 4th District, announced last week his office is participating in the annual Congressional Art Competition, a high school visual arts contest. Now through April 19, 2013, high school students in the Fourth Congressional District can submit paintings, drawings, collages, computer-generated art, prints, mixed media and photography pieces to Kennedy's office on Crafts Street in Newton. An independent arts panel that includes several artists and art professionals from across the Fourth District will select a finalist for each media category. Two weeks after he was officially sworn into office, Fourth District Congressman Joe Kennedy III has his first House committee and subcommittee assignments. In a statement released today, Kennedy announced that he has been appointed to the the Subcommittee on Middle East and North Africa and the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation and Trade. Newton's newest congressman, Joe Kennedy III, was officially sworn in Thursday, Jan. 3 as a member of the nation's 113th Congress. Just a month after he clinched the Fourth Congressional District seat, Joseph Kennedy III celebrated another important milestone on Saturday: his wedding. Kennedy, 32, wed fellow Harvard Law School classmate Lauren Anne Birchfield at the Community Church in Corona del Mar, Calif., according to a My Fox Boston report earlier today. The ceremony was officiated by Birchfield's father, the Rev. Jim Birchfield, My Fox Boston reported. This week in Wellesley… The Board of Selectmen approved a common victuller’s license to group of developers and owners for a restaurant at 978 Worcester St. Monday. A prior group of owners sought to build a restaurant called "Justine's" at the location, but the board denied them a license because they felt the restaurant would be too large for the area’s limited parking. On Tuesday, the Wellesley Police Department issued an alert to residents to beware of a phone solicitation scam being run by a group calling itself Bay State Veterans. Although he's gaining endorsements, Joseph Kennedy III has yet to officially enter the race for the Fourth Congressional District. But that will all change tomorrow. In a press release issued Wednesday evening, Kennedy's campaign said he will offficially announce his candidacy today. A video announcement will be posted on www.joekennedy2012.com in the morning. The former assistant district attorney for Barnstable and Middlesex counties is exploring a bid for Congress and has stepped down as an attorney.
Joseph P. Kennedy III is making the final move in a bid to run for U.S. Representative Barney Frank's seat by opening an exploratory committee to raise money Boston.com reported Jan. 5. Kennedy announced his resignation as a Middlesex County prosecutor with the District Attorney's office, according to MyFoxBoston.com. Last March, Kennedy told the Cape Cod Times he would not run for a seat in congress. However, in November Rep. Frank, after 30 years in office, said he would not seek re-election after his district was redrawn with the new redistricting initiative, WPRI.com reported.
