Programs offering free rides in some areas are not available in the state.
You may have seen it on Facebook. "No excuses, folks. Don't drink and drive-and don't ride with anybody who does. Tipsy Tow offered by AAA: You don't have to be a AAA member, from 6pm-6am on New Year's Eve/Day they will take your drunk self and your car home for FREE. Save this number... 1-800-222-4357. Please re-post this if you don't mind" The message went viral this week, posted on Facebook pages and shared on sites across the country. The problem is, the service is not available in all areas. In fact, according to the AAA website, clubs in only 17 states are offering the free rides home. The site lists Merrimack Valley as having the program, but no where else in Massachusetts. An additional "AAA Justice Link" website lists outside …

The food snob in me is in full swing this time of year. I’m scouring my cookbooks, internet, magazines and recipe boxes for new food recipes worthy of the holiday dinner table. I just want something extra special that will be a show-stopper! I think all cooks and bakers (home cooks and professionals alike) step it up a notch this time of year. It’s a hunt that begins early in the season and one I don’t take lightly, in thought or in calories — I mean it is the holidays after all and we’ll just have to go for a few extra walks to feel a little less guilty about consuming some of these goodies that come around just once a year. So this week’s recipe is going to come from scratch and take a little more effort than most. But, again, it’s the…

Keep tabs on the Jolly Old Elf this Christmas Eve as he makes his way to the home of all the good boys and girls.
Patch wants to remind all Wellesley children, and their parents, that you can track Santa’s travels on Christmas Eve by clicking on this link on Saturday. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) monitors the air around the world, around the clock, checking for unusual happenings in the skies. So, of course, NORAD simply can’t ignore a flying sleigh powered by nine reindeer. NORAD Tracks Santa is an annual Christmas program, which has existed since 1955, produced under the auspices of NORAD. Every year on Christmas Eve, NORAD Tracks Santa Claus as he leaves the North Pole and delivers presents to children around the world. Several high tech systems are used to track Santa, such as: radar, satellites, Santa Cams, and fighter …

Let us know which Christmas song you don't want to hear again.
It happens every year. Christmas music starts cropping up around Thanksgiving and for a week or two we tolerate it -- and many of us actually like it. Then, we move closer to Christmas and each note of an Andy Williams or Mitch Miller song makes our blood pressure rise. There's only so much mirth one person can take! Then there's the sappy song like Wham's tune or the corny songs from legends like The Beach Boys, Paul McCartney, Eartha Kitt or Dean Martin. And then, there's Feliz Navidad, 12 Days of Christmas and no list of painful Christmas music is complete without Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer. So, we want to know -- which Christmas song are you most tired of? If we don't have your choice in the poll, let us know in the comment …

Andy Brown, owner of The Toy Shop in Wellesley Square, talks to Wellesley Patch about the hot toys this holiday shopping season.
While video games, kindles and iPads continue to sell both in malls and on the internet, there’s at least one packed toy store in town where you won’t find any of those. Andy Brown, owner of the Toy Shop and Gift Shop in Wellesley Square, was helping holiday shoppers in his always-busy store Wednesday, Dec. 14. His shop specializes in the analog version of holiday gifts. "Video games will always be popular," he said. "For the holidays, someone may get a video game, but they’ll get something else too." The Toy Shop is lined with board games, dice games, action figures and other forms of old school fun for kids. Here are some of the toys flying off the shelves at his shop:

All my life it has been Merry Christmas, many movies come out with Christmas themes, commercials have Christmas themes, mall Santas, the majority of December has been Christmas themes.
