Wellesley Traffic Alert: Gas Leak on Weston Road

Police say there will be "extensive delays" on Weston Road because of a gas leak which developed yesterday.

  The Police say you can expect "extensive" delays on Weston Road today, near the Fells block, due to a natural gas leak. National Grid crews will be on scene to repair the leak, and according to the announcement sent out by the Police this morning, you may be able to smell natural gas in the area until the leak is fixed. Crews have been working overnight, and will continue to work in the area throughout the day. Gas Main Leak on Aberdeen Road

Crews are shutting down gas on Aberdeen Road.

Police, fire and department of public works crews are at Aberdeen Road attempting to fix a leaking gas main. The smell of “ignitable” gas is heavy in the air of the neighborhood. According to an official at the scene, the crews have alerted area residents and must shut the gas off at the source. An official did not know how the leak occurred. Crews Repairing Emergency Gas Leak at Washington St. and Glen Road, Expect Significant Delays

Delays could continue through the night.

The Wellesley Police Department is advising drivers to stay away from the area of Washington Street and Glen Road as emergency crews repair a gas leak in the area. “This stretch of road is usually very busy, especially in the evening commute,” the alert says. “Please try and avoid this area this afternoon, or expect to be delayed if you have to travel on Washington Street near the Lower Falls.” Police say there will likely be significant delays in the area throughout the day and into the night. Wellesley Police will send out an alert when the road is clear.
