Joe Kennedy III Wins Fourth Congressional District Seat

Retiring Barney Frank will be succeeded by scion of Kennedy political dynasty.

  Joe Kennedy III will be a new U.S. Congressman  from Massachusetts. At around 9:30 p.m., the Associated Press called the race for 32-year old Kennedy, who lives in Brookline, as he was beating by a 2-1 margin Norfolk Republican Sean Bielat in the race to represent the redrawn Fourth Congressional District. Rep. Barney Frank, a media celebrity Tuesday night at Kennedy's celebration party at the Newton Marriott Hotel, is retiring after serving the Fourth District since 1981. Kennedy and Bielat to Face off for Fourth Congressional District Seat

Kennedy and Bielat both had huge victories in the district.

After months of campaigning across a large and newly redrawn district, the pool of Fourth Congressional District candidates has officially been whittled down from six to two. Democrat Joe Kennedy III and Republican Sean Bielat will be the two names on the November ballot for the Fourth Congressional District, according to reports from the Associated Press. Kennedy Sets Eyes on Frank's Congressional Seat

The former assistant district attorney for Barnstable and Middlesex counties is exploring a bid for Congress and has stepped down as an attorney.

Joseph P. Kennedy III is making the final move in a bid to run for U.S. Representative Barney Frank's seat by opening an exploratory committee to raise money Boston.com reported Jan. 5. Kennedy announced his resignation as a Middlesex County prosecutor with the District Attorney's office, according to MyFoxBoston.com. Last March, Kennedy told the Cape Cod Times he would not run for a seat in congress.  However, in November Rep. Frank, after 30 years in office, said he would not seek re-election after his district was redrawn with the new redistricting initiative, WPRI.com reported.
