Where in Wellesley to Get a Flu Shot

The Wellesley Health Department offers information on flu shots.

  Earlier this week, the Red Cross reported flu cases were “widespread,” and in Boston on Wednesday, Mayor Tom Menino declared the flu outbreak a health emergency after the city saw a tenfold increase in flu cases over last year. The Wellesley Health Department has listed on the town website information on the flu and the flu vaccine. The health department recommends those who did not get a flu shot this season to contact their doctor, their child's pediatrician, or visit a local pharmacy. Walgreens offers flu shots to those 18 and up, while some CVS' have flu vaccines for adults and children.  The health department also directs residents to visit www.flu.gov to learn the difference between colds and the flu, and what to do to protect …

Wellesley's Week in Review, Sept. 19-25

The Community Center is Cleared to Serve Food Again, the Middle School Building Committee Narrows Expansion Options to 3, and a Field Trip to a Mosque Makes Headlines

The week began Sunday with word that the Health Department had cleared the Wellesley Community Center for food service again. Food serving was suspended at the building Aug. 20 after an inspection from town facilities workers and a Wellesley Health Department inspector found evidence of mice in the building.  On Monday, the talk around town was about a video of middle school students on a field trip praying at a mosque, which garnered widespread media attention throughout the week. Charles Jacobs, head of Americans For Peace And Tolerance, made a complaint on behalf of an anonymous Wellesley parent, but other parents have been quick to defend the value of the field trip. Zoning Board Debates Worcester Street CVS Location

The proposed CVS Pharmacy on Worcester Street saw opposition from neighbors, ZBA comments.

The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) heard the case of the CVS Pharmacy proposed on Worcester Street, presented by Attorney Brian Levey, and Senior Project Engineer Brian Murphy and Project Manager Patrick Dunford of Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, inc. As it stands, the site is run down, with the rear of the property actually eroding into Vogel brook. There was an auto dealer and a gas station here once, but even the gas storage tanks are gone because they began leaking. Along with the construction of a CVS, and considerable landscaping, the project also provides for the removal of dumped car parts and other trash in the wetlands area.  "CVS doesn't want to put money in this and have it look like a dump," Murphy noted, when asked about maintenance …
