Firefighters Deal with Small Brush Fire Near Wellesley College

A section of Route 16 had to be closed Saturday as officials dealt with a small brush fire in the woods near Wellesley College.

A section of Washington Street had to be shut down for about two hours Saturday afternoon as Wellesley firefighters worked to extinguish a small brush fire. The fire occurred at 848 Washington St. - specifically the wooded area near Wellesley College and police shut down the area just after 5 p.m. so that fire officials could access a hydrant, according to Jeffrey J. Peterson, deputy chief of the Wellesley Fire Department. “It wasn’t a huge brush fire, but it did create some difficulties,” he said, referring to the two-hour road closure.
