The Wellesley Fire Department was established shortly after the town of Wellesley was incorporated in 1881. A fireMore station was built on the current Worcester Street location of the department's headquarters in 1889. The first version of the building also housed the Police Department, the Board of Health and the Highway Department. That building was demolished in 1987 and replaced with the current headquarters building, which houses Engine 2, Engine 3, Tower 2, the department's administrative offices and a mechanic shop.

The Wellesley Fire Department has 56 employees, including 35 firefighters, 12 lieutenants, four staff captains, a fire inspector, Deputy Chief Jeffrey J. Peterson and Fire Chief Richard DeLorie. 

Wellesley Police Department

The Wellesley Police Department started in April, 1893. Its first police officer, Harry M. Kingsbury was hired thatMore November. By July of 1895, Kingsbury had been named the town's first police chief. In June of 1903, the department had acquired its first police station, located at the fire headquarters on Route 9. The police station's current headquarters on Washington Street was built in October 1996.

The department has 62 full-time employees, which include the chief, Terrence M. Cunningham, the deputy chief, three lieutenants, six sergeants, 35 officers (three of these positions are vacant and not funded), an animal control officer, 11 dispatchers, two secretaries, a records clerk and two custodians.
