Parking and Not Riding Just after 8 p.m. on May 5, Officer Cunningham was patrolling a commercial parking lot on Linden Street. He haw a vehicle parked with two men inside, and queried the vehicle. The query determined that there was an outstanding warrant in the name of the registered owner. After confirming that the driver was the registered owner, police arrested and charged Michael Reddish of Natick, 21, on the outstanding default warrant out of Framingham District Court. There are about 3,800 fans of the Wellesley Police Department on Twitter, which makes them one of the most popular in the country. For a department of its size, the Wellesley Police Department has the third highest Twitter following, according to a recent list from the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Center for Social Media. The list breaks police department accounts nationwide into a number of categories. The Music Was Not Loud Enough... A Burlington man was arrested on May 5 after he allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and fell asleep behind the wheel of his car in Newton Corner. According to Newton Police reports, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Washington Street and Centre Street for reports of a male party asleep behind the wheel of a red Mercedes. When officers arrived, they found the car stopped at the traffic signal, just before the on-ramp to the Mass Pike. Reports said the driver was asleep behind the wheel with the doors locked and loud music playing. The vehicle was running and in neutral. The Wellesley Police Department Runners Club annual Officer Savage 5K was held last weekend.
The Wellesley Police Department Runners Club held its annual Officer Savage 5K Road Race and Fun Run on Sunday, May 5. The race started and finished at Babson College, and a kids 'fun run' was held for children 10 and under. Seth McClennen, 41, of Wellesley was the top overall male finisher, with a time of 17:07. The Wellesley Police Department announced they will sell specially-designed Boston Strong t-shirts to benefit The One Fund.
Wellesley Police Department have walked, run, and responded to the Boston Marathon--and are now selling for it. Wellesley Police are now selling special Boston Strong t-shirts from the station. According to an announcement on the Wellesley Police website, these shirts are selling fast. Each one is $20, and the proceeds from the shirt will go to The One Fund Boston, a charity dedicated to the victims of the marathon bombing. The shirts were designed by the department, and are available from size small to size 3XL. Transit Officer Richard Donohue may have been hit by another officer's bullet during the chaos of the battle with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects.
A Watertown resident who witnessed the shootout between police officers and the two Boston Marathon bombing suspects in the East End said she believes the MBTA officer critically injured in the battle on April 19 was struck by friendly fire. The Boston Globe reported Tuesday that a woman who lives just a few hundred feet from the scene of the chaotic gun battle saw officers firing at the bombing suspects and then saw someone at a nearby street corner fall. She wrote in a statement to the Globe that Donohue was hit near the end of the shootout as 19-year-old suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev drove away from the area in a stolen SUV.
