We have a strong track record as an employer, with many employees who have worked with the company for more than 10 years. It is our practice to work collaboratively with employees during incidence of medical issues that impact the individual or members of our families.
The leadership of Haynes is confident that we followed appropriate practices in connection with recent events concerning a member of our staff. Media reports regarding the circumstances of this decision
have been inaccurate; however, out of respect for the privacy of the individual involved, we will not comment on the specifics.
In recognition of their unique circumstances and level of hardship created by his wife’s illness, Haynes Management is reaching out to our former employee to determine if there is a way we can be supportive to his family during this time. This decision is consistent with our values as a family owned business and our commitment to being a responsible member of our community.

I stopped by their office yesterday and smelled something awful. I think it was Mary Butler.

Horrible work ethics

I spoke with a horrible woman named Mary Butler, who was rude and very unpleasant. She should be fired immediately for her unprofessional telephone manners. Stay away from this terrible place.

Haynes Company owned by the Koch Brothers are notorious for treating the working class like chattels. But how you treated a loyal employee for 13 years whose beloved wife is dying of cancer is not surprising but DISGUSTING all together! What comes around goes around! The Koch Brothers and this company are the worst symbols of greed & heartless corporate America. I will boycott all Koch brothers products & this company & inform all of my friends.

Your complete lack of ethical standards and basic human morality is frightening. You fired him for business reasons? How can you be so Heartless?

Horrible despicable people. Firing a man who was an employee of theirs over the fact his wife has stage 4 cancer. Just imagine, if this is how this scum treats their employees what they do to their customers!

Sorbella's wife of 23 years, Kathy, had learned she had stage 4 untreatable cancer in April. But according to the report, the request for a modified schedule in order to deal with the problem was too much for his employer, Haynes Management, a real estate company in Wellesley Hills, Mass.

According to ABC, Sorbella feels he was wrongfully terminated:

I just finished reading about the despicable manner in which you and your company treated Carl Sorabella, and wanted you to know that the public is watching, and we're disgusted. It's the heartless way in which you justify this behavior that makes it all the worse. I sincerely hope nobody in your family ever has to experience what your putting the Sorabella family though.

Thanks for the link to the story. What an awful company! They fired a loyal employee of 13 years when he wanted to spend some time with his ill wife who had a dire prognosis. Not like she was on your healthcare plan. He was just asking for flex time. And if the company had not acted short sighted & cold hearted, he would have been back regularly given the unexpected good prognosis. This may not have been illegal, but the stench of this atrocious behavior is going to stay with this company forever. Great PR.
