Does Your Welcome Mat Say “Hello” or “Goodbye?”

Curb Appeal Can Attract or Repel

Curb appeal—like a first impression—has to be positive and compelling or you many not get another chance. Beautiful exteriors and impressive landscaping are magnets that attract potential buyers to your home. While it may sound expensive and time consuming, here’s a hit list of simple and inexpensive DIY projects to amplify the beauty and value of your property:

·      Lighten Up!

Replace outdated exterior lighting with modern versions. Illuminate your walkway with low-voltage landscape lighting or inexpensive solar stake lights from Target, Home Depot or any hardware store.

·      The Front Door is Your Welcome Mat

Apply a fresh coat of paint to the front door to spruce it up. Replace hardware or polish existing pieces for a new look. Add a wreath or a doormat that reflects your style and that of your home.

·      “Dirty” Tricks

Adding dark mulch to the yard can hide a multitude of imperfections and will make it appear freshly landscaped. While you’re at it, line the walkway or add planters filled with beautiful flowers for a burst of color and freshness.

·      Get Off the Fence and Fix It

Fences are definitely noticed so make sure yours is in tip top shape. A semi-transparent stain evens out discolorations and signs of repair. Use the same stain to refresh railings, a shed, benches, or similar items on the property.

Bottom line: quick and inexpensive fixes that add curb appeal to your home can turn a “drive by” into a “home buy.” The time and money spent is well worth it.
