Babson Students Raise $16,000 for Local Charities

The first-year business students ran their own businesses this spring and gave back to local charities.

For the 11th year in a row Babson College students taking the Foundations of Management and Entrepreneurship developed new business plans and gave back to the local community.

"In January 2013, the students launched 19 ventures which reaped over $16,000 in profits for selected charities. In addition to running their businesses, the students donated their time and resources to local community service agencies of their choice," a press release from the college says.

The students sold iPhone accessories, bracelets, glow in the dark apparel and more while supporting the Boys and Girls Club, Special Olympics, MS Society and other area charities.

The course is part of Babson's Business Management program redesign, which is taking the focus off the entrepreneur and putting it on the consumer.

"The redesign features structural changes to the curriculum including smaller team groups, more time for students to conceptualize and finalize their businesses, and an integration of Organizational Behavior into the coursework," the college said.
