Have you planned something special for the Valentine's Day? No? Don't worry, we got some local special events for your Weekend of Love!
Valentine’s Day, February 14th, is a joyous holiday celebrated by spending time with loved ones, sending and receiving hand-written letters, exchanging flowers, and consuming inordinate amounts of chocolaty goodness in the form of truffles and pastries.
Valentine’s Day was sanctioned as a church holiday by Pope Gelasius around 498 A.D. The specific origin of this lovely holiday remains unclear because the Catholic Church recognizes and celebrates three different saints, all named Valentine or Valentinus. In one interpretation, St. Valentine fell in love with the daughter of his jailor. Before he died, Valentine wrote her a letter and signed it as “From your Valentine” — a phrase that we see today in many letters and cards.
