July Jubilation Planned for Later This Month

Wellesley's annual block party and sidewalk shopping event in Wellesley Square will be bigger than ever this year.

About 60 Wellesley merchants plan to hit the streets on Saturday, July 20 as part Wellesley’s annual July Jubilation Sidewalk Sale.

“All 60 merchants are promoting great sales, great deals, great fun,” said Demian Wendrow, Jubilation’s organizer and head of Wellesley Square Merchants Association. “I’m feeling good about this years count in terms of how many merchants we have. I feel good about the line-up.”

Jubilation has always been a great opportunity for the community to come together after many residents will have been traveling for the first two weeks of July, Wendrow said.

“That’s why we do July Jubilation two or three weeks out,” he said. “And it’s always been a great, fun day.”

In addition to this year’s record-breaking number of tables, Jubilation will have four featured half-hour shows this year, including a sing-along from Music Together, a performance by Rockin’ Railroad Band hosted by Kidville, a featured dance show by Linx Dance Studio and a performance from the official Boston Red Sox magician.

Music will be provided all day by the Z-Tunes DJ Service. Attractions will include a dunk tank, a petting zoo, a moon bounce, a juggler, unicyclists, caricature artists, stilt walkers, face painters and an open police cruiser to tour all on site.

Food vendors on site will include Upper Crust, Boloco and Milestone.

“They’re all from Wellesley, and that’s the protocol,” Wendrow said of vendors and merchants.

The fun begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. in Wellesley Square. A rain date is scheduled for Saturday, July 27.

Wellesley Square Merchants Association donates extra Jubilation funds to the Wellesley Square Merchants High School Scholarship Fund and WEF, the Wellesley Education Foundation.
