Wellesley Science and Technology Expo Kickoff Gathering: Thursday, November 21, 2013 7:30-9:00pm in the Wakelin Room at the Wellesley Public Library

Got STEM?

Over the next decade, STEM related job opportunities are expected to increase by nearly 17%, according to non-profit coalition STEM-Advantage. The Massachusetts Computing Attainment Network (MASS CAN) calculates that there are, on average, 122 thousand jobs in computer sciences every year and in 2012 there were only 50 thousand graduates available to fill these positions. Furthermore, the US Department of Commerce, Economics and Statistics Administration has discovered that employees in STEM jobs consistently earn a wage premium of up to 26% more than workers in non-STEM positions. Lastly, let's not forget that beyond STEMs impact on individuals- researchers from Harvard University discovered from their 2011 study, that by enhancing math proficiency among American students to the levels achieved in Canada or South Korea for example, the US could increase its annual national income projections by 75 trillion dollars over the next 80 years.
