Wellesley's Nate Freiman Having Big Impact for First-Place Oakland A's

Freiman was recently called up and has made key contributions for the A's, who currently have the best record in baseball.

Nate Freiman, who grew up in Wellesley, is having a big impact for the Oakland Athletics, who currently have the best record in baseball.

Freiman, 27, made his professional debut last year but has spent most of this season playing Triple A ball.

He was called up last month and in his season debut again the Miami Marlins, he blasted a game-winning homer.

He said he was thrilled to be playing in the big leagues again.

"I was wired," he told the San Francisco Chronicle.

In eight games this season, he has six hits and eight RBIs. The A's had a six-game winning streak during that time.

Freiman was called up after Josh Reddick, a former member of the Boston Red Sox, hurt his knee. The Red Sox are currently last in their division.

Freiman, who stands a towering 6 feet, 8 inches, played baseball at Wellesley High School. He played 80 games for the A's last year and was named the Rookie of the Month in May.
