Wellesley's Sports Roundup May 7-13
Wellesley's lacrosse teams kept rolling, while the softball and boys' volleyball squads continued to struggle.
Baseball: The Raiders won two of three games this week but continue to trail Walpole in the Bay State Conference standings. Wellesley (10-6, 7-4 BSC) topped Brookline, 5-4, in 11 innings on Monday then before losing a 6-2 decision against Braintree on Friday. The local nine can redeem an April 27 loss and narrow the gap between themselves and the Rebels when they visit Walpole on Monday at 4 p.m.
Softball: Wellesley opened the week with an 11-1 thumping of Brookline, a victory which, coupled with last Friday’s win over Natick, represented the team’s first back-to-back W’s of the season. But the Raiders (3-12, 2-9 BSC) lost four straight to close a jam-packed week: 6-2 to Weymouth, 4-1 to Dedham, 6-2 to Weymouth, and 10-1 to Braintree.
Boys’ lacrosse: The Raider offense kept clicking, reaching double figures for the ninth time this spring in wins over Brookline and Norwood. Wellesley (13-0, 8-0 BSC) beat the Warriors, 10-5, on Tuesday and the Mustangs, 10-3, on Friday to stay atop the conference standings.

Boys’ volleyball: The Raiders’ quest for a victory remained, for another week at least, quixotic, as they were swept three times. Wellesley (0-13, 0-12 BSC) lost, 3-0, to Natick on Monday, Needham on Thursday and Newton North on Friday.
