Turkey Day 5k to Benefit Wellesley Cancer Prevention Project

Road closures expected on Thanksgiving day while 5k runs through

[Update: The Wellesley Police Department updated their site with road closure information, saying that Linden Street will be closed for about 15 minutes while runners get ready to leave and pass through the Wellesley Square and Wellesley College areas. Nov. 21, 9:40 a.m.]

While many will be waking up and heading out to the traditional Needham-Wellesley football game on Thanksgiving, some runners will be out fighting cancer.

Race Against Cancer's Turkey5 is a pair of races, one a 5k, the other a five-mile course running through Wellesley on turkey day at about 8 a.m.--registration starts early at 6:30 a.m.

This does mean that some roads along the Linden Square route will be closed from about 8 a.m. to about 9 a.m. See the course maps on the website (screenshots above) to confirm the road closings. Neighbors affected by the closings are invited to run for free: contact turkey5@runagainstcancer.org with your name and address, and ask for a coupon code.

Entry fee is $37 ($35 prior to yesterday), and numbers can be collected from Sportsclub/LA in Chestnut Hill today, tomorrow and before the race. Proceeds will go to benefit a number of local organizations, including the Wellesley Cancer Prevention Project as well as the Ellie Fund and The Greater Boston Food Bank.
