McCullough Gets Book Deal for ‘You’re Not Special’ Commencement Speech

The writer of the now world-renowned commencement speech has signed a book deal with a HarperCollins imprint.

It turns out the writer of the famous “” commencement speech might be special after all, at least in the eyes of a major book publisher.

David McCullough Jr., English teacher at Wellesley High School, has signed a book deal with Ecco, an imprint of HarperCollins, to develop a book based on his speech to the graduating class of 2012, according to Mediabistro.com’s Galleycat section, which posts news on the book publishing industry.

The Wellesley Media Corp. video of McCullough’s contrarian speech took the internet by storm in the following weeks. The speech received over 1 million YouTube views and McCullough was interviewed by a variety of national news outlets.
