Selectmen Allow for Walden Grille License Extension

The manager intends to find a license buyer.

The Concord Board of Selectmen voted Monday night to allow Jack Grant six months to find a person in which to transfer the Walden Grille’s license.

Grant, who manages the All Liquor License for the restaurant, said that it is his intention to find someone else to take over the license and continue a restaurant of some type on the property. Grant did not specify if that restaurant would still carry the name or become something different.

“At this point, we don’t have an owner in place,” Grant said. “But we’re working with the landlord to come up with something.”

after roughly 25 years of serving the community. Since that time, residents have been left to wonder what will become of the property since the liquor license was never relinquished.

Administrative Assistant to the Board of Selectmen Ruth Lauer explained Monday that normally a license holder would have to relinquish the license if the establishment in question was not open during the hours specified in the terms of the license. However, she also related that a license holder could be granted additional time to find another person to purchase the license from the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission, if that is the wish of the original license holder.

Grant was asked to present his official decision to the board and he related his intention to sell the license. The selectmen agreed to provide him extra time to do so, believing that Walden Grille was an establishment that many in town enjoyed.

“We can use as many restaurants in town as we can,” said Selectman Stanly Black, “so this would fill a hole if you’re able to transfer the license.”
