Wellesley Police Nab Needham Knife-Taker

A kitchen knife in a forest put a man in cuffs over the weekend, according to police reports. 

Wellesley police were dispatched to the Whole Foods in Wellesley at about 11:15 a.m. on Sunday morning, where employees reported a shoplifting incident. Staff allege that a man had left without paying for an item, and one employee had followed him down the street and to the brook path. 

Officer Hughes arrived on the scene, where the employee identified the man walking away. Police say they called out to the retreating man who threw something into the brook. Officers ran after him, after he was unresponsive to their commands.

56-year-old Greendale Avenue, Needham resident, Timothy Clark was arrested and charged with shoplifting by concealing merchandise, according to Wellesley police reports.

When Officer Hughes investigated the discarded item, he found a kitchen knife lying in the brook.

Clark was released on personal recognizance.
