Wellesley Fire Department Invited to 'Ellen' for Dog Rescue

Four Wellesley firefighters will be featured on the Ellen Degeneres Show Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Captain Jim Dennehy, lieutenant Paul Delaney, firefighter Dave Papazian and firefighter Joan Cullinan were invited on the show because of their rescue of Crosby, a dog who fell through the ice of Charles River last month. Firefighters, tethered to a rope, waded through the water and ice and pulled the dog to shore, where they dried him off with blankets and a fire coat and returned him to his family. For their efforts, Wellesley Fire Department received PETA's Compassionate Fire Department Award.

The show airs 4 p.m. on channel 5. The episode will also feature Julianna Marguilies ("The Good Wife"), Chiwetel Ejiofor ("12 Years a Slave") and British singer John Newman.
