Special Delivery: Wellesley Firefighters Deliver Baby in Ambulance
Firefighters helped the woman give birth in the back of the ambulance before they reached Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
A group of Wellesley firefighters helped make a special delivery Wednesday.
WCVB-TV reported a man arrived at the police station and said his pregnant wife was about to give birth and they wouldn't make it to the hospital.
The pair jumped in an ambulance driven by Wellesley firefighter Chris Larsen.
"It was the slowest ride I've ever taken," Larsen said, according to WCVB. "I'm like, 'don't hit any bumps.'"
Fire Lt. Matt Corda, firefighter Ian McMakin, and medics Kevin Labarge and Glenn Davis helped the woman give birth in the back of the ambulance before they reached Newton-Wellesley Hospital. The baby and mother were in good health, WCVB reported.
The delivery was "truly a team effort and our community of Wellesley should be proud of our first responders and their training," the fire department said in a statement.
