Pot Plants Found in Vehicle During Traffic Stop on Route 9

The following reports were provided by the Wellesley Police Department. Charges where mentioned do not indicate a conviction.

On Monday, July 1 Officer Nate Derby was patrolling Route 9 eastbound near Route 16 when he stopped a vehicle with a defective taillight.

As he was approaching the vehicle, Derby smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

When the driver, Douglas C. Fisher, 41, of 56 Elliot Hill Rd., Natick, was retrieving his license and registration Derby used his flashlight to inspect the interior of the vehicle through a window.

When he shined his light on the ground in front of the passenger seat Derby observed multiple plants that he recognized as marijuana plants.

After asking Fisher about the plants he admitted that they were marijuana and that he was attempting to dry them out.

At the station the plants were weighed and found to be 6.5 pounds.

Fisher was charged with possession of a class D substance with intent to distribute and a motor vehicle lights violation. He was released on his own recognizance.
