Police: Wellesley Man Showed Gun in Apparent Road Rage Incident on Route 9 in Newton

The incident was reported Wednesday on Route 9 westbound in Newton.

For the second time in a week, Newton Police are reporting an apparent road rage incident that resulted in one driver pulling out a gun.

According to police reports, the Newton Police Department received information from the Wellesley Police Department around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday regarding a road rage incident on Route 9 that involved one driver showing a black handgun.

The victim, who initially reported the incident to a Wellesley detail officer, told police he was driving on Route 9 westbound when another driver brandished a black handgun at him near the Elliot Street intersection in Newton.

The suspect was also traveling westbound on Route 9, reports said. He was described as a heavy-set man wearing glasses and driving a black Toyota Tacoma.

After receiving the report, Wellesley Police managed to stop the Toyota Tacoma and found the driver was in possession of a double-edged knife and a loaded .380 Beretta handgun.

Joseph Foppiano, 46, of 6 Leewood Road, Wellesley, was initially arrested in Wellesley for possession of a dangerous weapon (double-edged knife). After the Newton Police Department was notified of the incident, Foppiano was transported to Newton and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (handgun).

Foppiano was properly licensed to carry the handgun, reports said.

This is the second weapons-related road rage incident in Newton in the last week; on Thursday, Feb. 14, a Newton man was arrested after he allegedly pulled a loaded gun on a fellow driver on Dedham Street.

Foppiano was scheduled to be arraigned today in Newton District Court, police said.

What an IDIOT! For a moment of impatience in traffic, this guy is risking a criminal record. This is why having guns is NOT a good idea. Get mad- blam!- regret later.

Yeah, what a shame, it probably all started by someone calling another person an idiot.
