Police Deal with Bank Robbery, Medical Calls During Marathon

Police and medical professionals received numerous calls for heat-related medical incidents while a suspect on Route 9 yesterday during the waning moments of the Boston Marathon in Wellesley.

Lt. Marie Cleary of the said throughout the day police received 55 calls, which required ambulances to respond. Forty-five of those calls involved either registered or non-registered runners.

The day's temperature soared to record breaking heights during the marathon - at one point hitting 89 degrees. 

At around 2:30 p.m., police received word that TD Bank on Route 9 had been robbed. Cleary said the Wellesley Police Department had two supervisors assigned to Wellesley – one for the north and one for the south side of town – because the race splits the town in half. She added police had four cruisers active.

Cleary said the police presence throughout town helped at the time of the robbery.

“We had already started opening up the road, and we actually had more officers respond than we would usually have,” she said.

Natick Police assisted in the follow up search. The suspect, who passed a note to a teller and made off with an undisclosed sum of money, is still at large.
