PHOTOS, VIDEO: Water Main Break Causes Delays

Work on the water main, which broke on Friday, is expected to be completed by Saturday afternoon.

A that occurred Friday morning on Central Street in Wellesley resulted in traffic delays and a detour on Saturday. 

Wellesley Department of Public Works officials began work on the eastbound side of Central Street/Rte. 135 around 7 a.m. Saturday, but the actual water main break occurred Friday morning around 9 a.m.

"The leak was shut off and contained yesterday, probably by 3 p.m.," said Joe Doherty, General Foreman for the Wellesley DPW's Water and Sewer Division.

It's unclear what caused the break, Doherty said, but the Wellesley DPW received the initial report of something wrong from the . 

"They were getting a little water in the basement," Doherty said.

Work is expected to continue through the afternon, but Doherty said crews should be finished by the end of day.
