Pedestrian Struck and Killed By Commuter Rail Train

Train service halted for much of the afternoon.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by an outbound MBTA commuter rail train at this afternoon.

According to a Wellesley Police statement, at 3:30 p.m. a man crossed in front of the P559 train, which departed from Boston at 2:30 p.m and was en route to Framingham. The man's identity is not being released at this time, according to Wellesley Police.

"It appears to be self inflicted," Lt. Marie Cleary of the Wellesley Police Department said.

The train, which held 125 passengers at the time of the incident, slowed as it approached, according to the statement. Preliminarily, there are no signs of foul play. Outbound commuter rail service was shut down to the area until about 5:15 p.m. Wellesley Police, Transit Police and State Police are investigating.
