Fridays the Busiest Days for Traffic Crashes in Wellesley

Wellesley Police Department analyze 2013 crash statistics.

Wellesley Police Department recently analyzed their motor vehicle crash statistics for 2013 and found that most traffic accidents happened in January,  on Fridays and between 3 and 5 p.m.

There were 100 crashes in January. May was second with 84 and December was third with 73. August had the least crashes with 34. Most crashes took place on Fridays, which had 177 in 2013. Wednesdays were second with 166 and Thursdays third, with 141. The day with the least amount of crashes was Sunday with 45.

The most likely time for a traffic crash was between 3 and 5 p.m., where approximately 220 crashes occurred.

“The number drops off sharply to 65 between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. however,” the report said.

Most crashes, 84.86 percent,  took place during the day while 14.90 percent  occurred at night.  Of the crashes reported, 14.66 percent resulted in some sort of injury, leaving 84.98 said to go unscathed.

The majority of crashes, 67 percent,  happened during clear weather. Cloudy weather was described in 20.98 percent of crashes, 5.24 percent happened in rain and 4.89 percent in snow.
