A section of Washington Street had to be shut down for about two hours Saturday afternoon as Wellesley firefighters worked to extinguish a small brush fire.
The fire occurred at 848 Washington St. - specifically the wooded area near and shut down the area just after 5 p.m. so that fire officials could access a hydrant, according to Jeffrey J. Peterson, deputy chief of the .
“It wasn’t a huge brush fire, but it did create some difficulties,” he said, referring to the two-hour road closure.
The fire was knocked down quickly and there was no damage to any nearby structures, Peterson said.
“It was accidental,” he said. “Of course with the rain we just got the risk of brush fire is reduced quite a bit.”
