Find my iPad Helps Wellesley Police Catch Burglar

The following reports were provided by the Wellesley Police Department. Charges where mentioned do not indicate a conviction.

It only took the Wellesley Police Department a few hours to catch a man who reportedly broke into a car on Hampshire Road and stole an iPad.

According to police reports, the resident reported her iPad stolen at 8 a.m. It had been taken out of her unlocked car overnight.

The iPad owner and police were able to activate the find my iPad feature and track the iPad as it moved westbound on Route 9.

The tracking feature led police to McDonalds on the Framingham / Natick line. When officers arrived they activated the “Find Me” feature and were able to here an alert coming from the iPad in a man’s bag.

Police stopped the man as he attempted to leave the restaurant and he said he had found the bag and the items in it in the woods.

Richard Boutin, 46, of 285 Plan St., Apt. 152, Brockton was arrested and charged with two counts of receiving stolen property over $250, three counts of receiving stolen property under $250 and one count of unlawful possession of pepper spray.

The bag he was carrying contained two iPads, $67 worth of American currency and $27 of foreign currency.

The pepper spray was found while conducting an inventory of his vehicle before it was towed.

This is the second time officers in Wellesley have successfully tracked down an Apple device using the Find my iPhone feature.
