Fiery Car Crash Shuts Down Power Near Suffolk Road

Wellesley Police Department responded to a fiery car crash early Sunday morning.

No one was injured in the accident, but power was lost in some areas after the crash.

The department received several calls around 12:10 a.m. about a Chevy Suburban that struck a utility pole near the intersection of Suffolk and Stanford Roads. The vehicle caught fire and the utility pole snapped in half with live wires arcing at the base of the pole.

No one was inside the vehicle upon police arrival at the scene.

“Sergeant Jeffrey Renzella and officer Timothy Dennehy located the driver several houses away on Stanford Road,” said police in a news release. “He had no visible injuries. He was evaluated by AMR paramedics and transported to Wellesley Hospital as a precaution.”

Firefighters contained gas leaks from the vehicle using foam. They also worked with Wellesley Municipal Light Plant to disconnect power and safely extinguish the blaze. Members of Wellesley Municipal Light Plant were on scene most of the night repairing damage to poles and wires.
