Obituary: Susan Titus (Godden) Astle, Teacher's Aide

Susan Titus (Godden) Astle, 69, formerly of Wellesley, died unexpectedly on Dec. 2, 2013 from complications after a brief illness. 

Born in Boston July 7, 1944, Susan was daughter of the late Harry and Ruth (Titus) Godden. She grew up in Wellesley and moved to Wolfeboro from Whitefield, N.H. in 1980. Susan graduated from Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School in Waltham and Franconia College in Franconia, N.H.

Susan worked as a Teacher’s Aide at Carpenter School for 29 years. She was also actively involved with Wolfeboro Summer Theatre for many years. After retiring, she worked as a home health care provider at Willing Heart Helpful Hands, she also volunteered at Carpenter School and Castle in the Clouds. She was a member of the Melvin Village Hikers and loved animals. 

She is survived by her son Scott and his wife Gina Astle of Conway, N.H.; her daughter Marcy and her husband David Verrone of Mendon; her two sisters Louise and her husband James Barwell of New Durham, N.H. and Judith Godden of North Andover; her sister-in-law, Patricia Godden of North Andover; her four grandchildren, Mathew, John, Carly and Tanner; and her cat Tanner. She was preceded in death by her brother William Godden.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 at Melvin Village Community Church, 476 Governor Wentworth Highway, Melvin Village, N.H. A burial will follow in Tuftonboro Town Hall Cemetery. Following the burial, there will be a celebration of Sue’s life at Carpenter School in Wolfeboro, N.H. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Hampshire Humane Society, 135 Meredith Center Road, P.O. Box 572, Laconia, N.H. 03246.
