Obituary: Lauren Vicky Farber, Pediatrician at MetroWest Medical Center

Obituary from Levine Chapel:

Lauren Vicky Farber, 47, of Wellesley, died Nov. 18, 2013 at home following a long illness.

Born in Boston July 7, 1966, she was the daughter of Drs. Stephanie and Leonard Farber. She moved with her family to Woodbridge, Conn. at age 3. She graduated high school in 1984 from Hopkins in New Haven where she was awarded the Yale History Prize. In 1988 she graduated Cum Laude from Columbia University. She received a scholarship to study for a Master's Degree in Art History from the University of Delaware, which she earned in 1990.

In 1991, as the Historical American Buildings Survey Sally Kress Tomkins Fellow, Lauren served as Architectural Historian for a project documenting the work of architect Lillian Rice in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.

In 1997 Lauren received a Doctor of Medicine degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. She trained in pediatrics at the University of Massachusetts. She was a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

For the past 12 years she practiced with the Holliston Pediatric Group, where she was a partner. She was affiliated with MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham and Boston Children's Hospital.

In 1995 she married John Miller, then a law clerk to Judges Patrick King and Margot Botsford of the Massachusetts Superior Court, and now a partner at the Boston litigation firm Sally & Fitch LLP. They have two children, Zachary and Rebecca, who Lauren absolutely adored.

Throughout her life Lauren was an avid reader, devouring non-fiction, fine and "trashy" novels, as well as stacks of magazines devoted to literature and popular entertainment. She changed her loyalty from the New York Yankees to the Boston Red Sox when she moved to Massachusetts and remained a devoted fan. She loved her dog Avon and the people she met while taking her for romps at the local dog park.

She became an active supporter of the National Brain Tumor Society. Team Lauren, the bike ride team she captained, participated in the Boston Brain Tumor Bike Ride over the last four years, raising money for basic research into brain tumors. Two years ago she lobbied the US Congress and Senate on behalf of legislation supported by the National Brain Tumor Society. This past year she spoke out nationally on the negative effects of the federal sequester of funds for brain cancer research.

In addition to John, her beloved husband of 18 years, she is survived by her children, parents, and her brother, Paul Solomon Farber, of Scottsdale, AZ.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21 at Temple Beth Elohim, 10 Bethel Road, Wellesley. Internment will follow at Beit Olam East Cemetery, 42 Concord Road, Wayland. Memorial observance will be held at her late residence immediately following the burial until 8 p.m. and continue at the home of Drs. Stephanie and Leonard Farber Sunday, Nov. 24 noon to 7 p.m.

Remembrances may be made in Lauren's name to the National Brain Tumor Society, 55 Chapel Street, Suite 200, Newton, MA 02458.
