Obituary: John Francis Gibson, WWII Veteran

John Francis “Jack” Gibson, of Wellesley, died Nov. 19, 2013.

He was husband of Charlotte M. (Atwater) Gibson for 64 years.

Jack was a graduate of Belmont High School, Class of 1945 and was inducted into the Belmont Hall of Fame in 1993 for outstanding achievement in football and baseball. He was signed by the Boston Braves and later played in the Philadelphia Athletics Organization.

He was a World War II United States Army Veteran. He was a regional sales manager for Behr-Manning and Jiffy Packaging.

Jack enjoyed golfing with his friends, sons and grandsons at Nehoiden Golf Club in Wellesley. 

He leaves his children Judith Gibson and her partner Scott, Diane Baldassari and her husband Peter, Jacqueline Parker and her husband John, C. Michael Gibson and his wife Kim, Gardiner Gibson, Patricia Holewinski and her husband Jan, Christopher, David, Brian and John Gibson Jr.; his grandchildren Carrie, Michele, Amanda, Andrew, Kate, Julia, Jon and Abigail; and his great-granddaughter Eve.

He enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Patriots and spending time with his family. Services will be private. Donations in Jack’s memory may be made to The Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline MA 02445.
