Grow your business by increasing your audience using these 3 connection tips.

Some writers love to write. Some of us in business feel that we need to write to get our information out to our customers. Knowing how to connect with those customers—our fans—is key.

People are hungry for news and inspiration. The reason you’ve written your story may be exactly what your readers need to read. If you’ve overcome a huge challenge, your success story could inspire someone else. Maybe you have a desire to teach or you love giving advice.

Make a list of the problems you overcame and the ways in which you overcame them. I used to think I had nothing worthwhile to share with people. There were so many other authors and writing coaches. Why would anyone listen to me?

The answer is that I’m unique. You’re unique. Only you have your point of view. Only you have your voice. And even though you may be saying essentially the same thing others are saying, people need repetition for ideas to sink in. A lot of repetition. So put your ideas out there. Be brave!

Here are 3 ways to connect with your hungry fans.

1.     Take those challenges and solutions and create blog posts, newsletters, fan pages. Social media is everywhere: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+, Meetup, and more. Wikipedia lists about 200 social networking sites. So create a Facebook page, post your articles on your website, put out a newsletter with Mail Chimp (it’s free) or AWeber (there’s a monthly fee). Go public. The more you share, the more you’re heard. And that’s a good thing.

2.     All those blog posts and newsletters take time and effort and it’s so frustrating to feel that you’re doing them for nothing. Don’t leave that to chance. Register your blog with the big blogging engines. Go to Technorati.com and Blogcatalog.com and sign up. Millions of subscribers use these engines. It’s a great way to increase your reach.

3.     The last tip for getting more article circulation is called Pinging. A ping notifies a server when the blog content has been updated. WordPress blogs automatically notify update services. If you don’t use WordPress, you can manually register with one or more of these services. I recommend starting with http://rpc.pingomatic.com. Then watch your traffic increase.

Good luck with your articles. If you have any questions, contact me here. But don’t wait. Start now!
