WCW Lunchtime Seminar: Preventing Depression in At-Risk Adolescents: The CATCH-IT Intervention Program

The CATCH-IT preventive intervention is a primary care, technology-based depression prevention program targeting adolescents who are at risk for depressive illness. CATCH-IT includes 14 web modules that teach strategies from behavioral activation, cognitive behavioral therapy, and interpersonal psychotherapy to strengthen protective factors and reduce vulnerability to depressive disorder. Preliminary studies reveal that the CATCH-IT intervention is acceptable to adolescents, and that the use of this intervention is associated with long-term decreases in depressive symptoms and disorders at follow-ups ranging from 6-12 months. Presently, a randomized controlled trial of the CATCH-IT intervention is underway, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health. Adolescents from two sites (Chicago and Boston) have been assigned randomly to the CATCH-IT web-based intervention or to a web-based Health Education control intervention. Preliminary data from this trial will be presented.

Lunchtime seminars are free and open to the public. Bring a lunch; coffee and tea will be served.
