John Henry is the next special guest for ‘Gil Stubbs' World of Magic’ to
be taped at The Wellesley Community Center on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at
4:00PM. This program will be a bit of a
departure from our regular adult talk show format, as John Henry will be
serving up a special kind of magic to a pre-school and grade school audience. He is also a veteran from Wellesley’s Kids
Time under the directorship of Judy Mongiardo from 1996 until 1998.
Our guest tells us that he has always “had an insatiable appetite
to experiencing life. I didn’t want to do just one thing- I wanted to do
everything. My father said if you want to learn anything read a book so that’s
what I did- a lot.”
Magic was one of those things that stuck with him over the
years, since his first performance was in 1959!
John Henry had other exciting things happen along the way, including the
achievement of Eagle Scout in 1960, the Amos Alonzo Stagg Medal, a national
award for physical fitness, presented by the famous Johnny Kelly of Boston Marathon
and Jimmy Fund fame. If that weren’t
enough, his academic efforts earned him membership into Alpha Psi Omega,
National Honor Society for the dramatic arts.
For years John Henry did what a lot of young adults do; try new things
and work at various professional jobs, but the one thing he stayed with was,
you guessed it, magic. And in 1987 he
decided that magic would be a full time pursuit and in case anyone challenged
his act, he studied to become a Black Belt, at the same time being eligible for
Social Security. Really. Please note, no
heckling from the audience if you know what’s good for you!

Perhaps the most impressive thing about John Henry, is his
ability to connect with young minds, where some of us ‘grown ups’ , ahem, over
rate our capabilities. That being said,
if you want a real pre-Thanksgiving treat, this is about as good as it
gets! For more information or to reserve
