Journey to Orissa: Odissi Music and Dance

Featuring Upasana director Mouli Pal, New
Mexico-based percussionist Phillip Hollenbeck on the mardala, and leading
Hindustani classical singer Ujjawal Parikh, this concert presents an ensemble
of musicians, vocalists, and dancers, performing the classical music and dance
of Odissi, rarely if ever heard live in the United States. A symbolic
representation of the love of Krishna and Radha, this performance creates a
mood of romance and tragedy, resolved with a fast-paced dance of ecstasy and
joy.
